Ukraine's flat steel imports decreased by 1.6% m-o-m to around 65,000 tons in April, according to data from Ukrainian customs.
The cost of imports increased by 3.8% m-o-m. In the first four months of 2023, the consumption of Ukraine's flat product imports amounted to about 232,000 tons with a value of USD 76.2 million. Ukraine's imports of foreign products increased by 68.8% compared to the same period last year.
According to the analysis of industry experts, the increase in imports was due to the destruction of Mariupol factories and the low base from March to April 2022. The Russia-Ukraine war brought economic activity to a near standstill early last year.
