The TRA (Trade Remedies Authority) of the United Kingdom has reportedly offered to extend safeguard measures for 15 steel products until June 2026 in order to protect the industry from the increase in imports.
In response to the June 30, 2024 expiry of safeguards, the TRA conducted a review in September 2023 and, as a result of its review, predicted serious damage to the UK steel industry if the safeguards were not extended.
SteelRadar reported that steel production in the UK decreased by 6.5% to 5.6 million tons in 2023 compared to 2022. In 2022, compared to 2021, production is estimated at 6.2 million tons, a drop of 15.6%.
