Category 2 products, for which the protection action will be canceled, consist of unalloyed and alloyed cold-rolled steel sheets used in the production of parts for the automotive industry, home appliances and other goods. These products are classified under the following commodity codes:
72091500, 72091690, 72091790, 72091891, 72092500, 72092690, 72092790, 72092890, 72099020, 72099080, 72112320, 72112330, 72112380, 72112900, 72119020, 72119080, 72255020, 72255080, 72262000 and 72269200.
TRA conducted a comprehensive investigation after Tata Steel UK applied for the lifting of the safeguard. The review concluded that Category 2 steel production had stopped and that removing the protection order would not result in a serious risk to the local industry. TRA stated that interested parties also supported the decision to cancel the protective measure, as its maintenance could lead to price increases for downstream consumers and upstream shareholders.
On the other hand, the announcement stated that anti-dumping measures on cold-rolled flat steel products imported from Russia and China are still in place.
Decision to remove the protection measure is expected to have an impact on trade policies in the UK steel sector and an impact on global trade dynamics.
