Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) published labor force statistics for March 2025. Accordingly, seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was realized as 7.9% in March. In the same period, employment rate increased to 49.2%.
According to the results of the Household Labor Force Survey, the number of unemployed people aged 15 and over decreased by 65 thousand people compared to the previous month and decreased to 2 million 807 thousand. The unemployment rate was 6.5% for men and 10.6% for women.
Strong increase in employment
In March, the number of employed persons increased by 391 thousand and reached 32 million 597 thousand. Employment rate increased by 0.6 points to 49.2%. This rate was realized as 66.9% for men and 31.9% for women.
Labor force participation increased to 53.4%
Labor force increased by 325 thousand people in March compared to the previous month and reached 35 million 404 thousand. The labor force participation rate was measured as 53.4%. While this rate was 71.6% for men, it remained at 35.7% for women.
Youth unemployment rate was 15.1%
Youth unemployment rate, which covers the 15-24 age group, increased by 0.1 points compared to the previous month and reached 15.1%. This rate was estimated as 11% for men and 22.6% for women.
Working hours increased to 43.7 hours
The average weekly actual working hours of employed people who were on the job in the reference period increased by 0.3 hours to 43.7 hours in March.
Idle labor force rate was 28.8%
The seasonally adjusted idle labor force ratio increased by 0.3 percentage points to 28.8% in March. The integrated rate of time-dependent underemployment and unemployed was recorded as 17.9%, while the integrated rate of unemployed and potential labor force was recorded as 20.1%.
