Türkiye generates electricity from wind through approximately 280 wind farms and more than 4,360 turbines operating across its seven regions.
According to the Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources and the Turkish Wind Energy Association (TÜREB), the share of wind energy in daily electricity production has risen to approximately 14%.
Domestic Production Capacity
Türkiye's wind energy industry includes seven tower production facilities, four blade production facilities, and four generator and nacelle manufacturing plants. Last year, the economic value of wind power equipment production reached $2.2 billion, with projections suggesting it could rise to $10 billion in the future.
2035 Target: 120,000 Megawatts of Renewable Energy
Türkiye aims to increase its installed renewable energy capacity from 33,000 megawatts to 120,000 megawatts by 2035. This growth is significantly supported by Renewable Energy Resource Zone (YEKA) auctions, which contribute to the country's total installed power capacity. In the YEKA RES 2024 auctions held earlier this month, a total terminal capacity of 1,200 megawatts was allocated across five YEKA zones in three provinces.
These developments not only increase the share of renewable energy in total electricity generation but also aim to reduce electricity costs, enhance domestic production, and create a skilled workforce.
Steps to Reduce Energy Dependency
Over the past 22 years, Türkiye's energy demand has tripled. To meet the growing need and minimize external dependence, the country continues to invest in domestic and sustainable energy projects without slowing down.
Türkiye’s progress in wind energy contributes both to strengthening energy supply and supporting economic growth.
