Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) published the industrial production index data for February 2025. According to the data, industrial production declined on both annual and monthly basis.
Industrial production decreased by 1.9% on an annual basis and 1.6% on a monthly basis. Analyzing the sub-sectors of industry, the most significant decline was seen in the mining and quarrying sector. The index of this sector decreased by 5.8% compared to the same month of 2024.
The manufacturing industry sector, which has the largest weight, also continued its downward trend. The index decreased by 2.5% on an annual basis and 1.6% on a monthly basis. This decline in manufacturing stood out as an important factor directly affecting the overall industrial production performance.
On the other hand, electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning production and distribution sector followed a positive course in February. The index increased by 8.5% on an annual basis and 3.5% on a monthly basis. This increase in energy production offset the decline in overall industrial production to some extent.
While this general decline in industrial production was attributed to the contraction in the manufacturing sector, which is the locomotive of production, the growth in the energy sector was considered as a remarkable development in terms of economic vitality.
