The Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD) announced the production, export and market data for February 2025. Accordingly, Türkiye's total automotive production decreased by 9% compared to the same period of the previous year to 218 thousand 991 units. Automobile production decreased by 6% to 141 thousand 486 units, while total production including tractor production decreased by 6% to 224 thousand 486 units.
Commercial vehicle production also declined in the first two months of the year. While commercial vehicle production decreased by 13%, this decrease was recorded as 54% in the heavy commercial vehicle group and 8% in the light commercial vehicle group. The capacity utilization rate of the automotive industry was recorded as 62%.
Automotive Exports Decreased by 4%
In January-February period, automotive exports decreased by 4% in terms of units to 158 thousand 168. While automobile exports decreased by 7%, commercial vehicle exports increased by 1%. Tractor exports decreased by 48% to thousand 652 units.
The automotive industry maintained its leadership in Türkiye's sectoral export ranking with a 16% share in February. In the first two months of the year, total automotive exports decreased by 1% in dollar terms to USD 5.9 billion and by 2% in euro terms to EUR 5.4 billion. In this period, exports of the main industry decreased by 3% in dollar terms, while exports of the supply industry increased by 2%.
Automobile and Commercial Vehicle Sales Decreased
In the first two months of the year, the Turkish automotive market contracted by 15% compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 164 thousand 324 units. While automobile sales decreased by 10% to 131 thousand 965, the commercial vehicle market decreased by 31%. Heavy commercial vehicle sales decreased by 35% and light commercial vehicle sales by 30%.
While 33% of the cars sold in February were domestically produced vehicles, the share of domestic vehicles in the light commercial vehicle market was 25%.
