A significant step has been taken in Türkiye's ferrochrome production with the opening of the BG Ferrochrome Factory in the Orhaneli district of Bursa. At the opening ceremony, Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır emphasized that this $250 million investment will elevate Türkiye's position in the global ferrochrome market. With an annual production capacity of 60,000 tons of high-carbon ferrochrome, the factory will supply the critical raw materials needed for Türkiye's alloy steel production.
In his speech, Minister Kacır highlighted the factory's role in advancing Türkiye's ferrochrome market presence, stating, "This facility will supply the high-carbon ferrochrome required for Türkiye’s alloy steel production, making our country a global player in this field. At the same time, this investment will secure raw material supply for our industry."
Kacır also pointed out the transformation in Türkiye's industrial and technological sectors, noting, "In the last 22 years, we have set production and export records in our industrial sector. The annual export value of our industrial products in sectors such as automotive, chemicals, machinery, steel, and white goods has risen from $34 billion to $241 billion."
The BG Ferrochrome Factory’s vision for environmental sustainability and digital transformation was also emphasized by Kacır, who mentioned that the facility uses an AI-based production model with applications aimed at reducing its carbon footprint. Additionally, half of the factory's energy needs will be met by an 80-megawatt solar power plant. "This facility is fully aligned with our green and digital transformation goals for our industry and will make a significant contribution to Türkiye’s production and export strength."
Following this investment, supported by project-based incentives from the Ministry of Industry and Technology, Kacır announced plans to boost Türkiye's stainless steel production capacity, stating, "We aim to integrate a stainless steel production investment with our ferrochrome infrastructure, opening a new chapter in our country’s industrialization history."
Notable attendees at the ceremony included Bursa Governor Mahmut Demirtaş, AK Party Deputy Chairman Efkan Ala, Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Abdullah Tancan, AK Party Bursa Provincial Chairman Davut Gürkan, and Gürsoy Holding Chairman Hasan Gürsoy. After the opening, Kacır and other officials toured the factory and received information about the production processes.
