According to the June global crude steel production data, World Steel Association (Worldsteel) recorded a decline in this month, as in the previous month. World crude steel production fell from 162 thousand tons to 159 thousand tons in June with a decrease of 1.73 percent compared to the previous month.
While some countries increased in crude steel production compared to June 2022, there were also countries that lost power
China, the world's largest steel producer, completed 91.1 m/t steel production in June with an increase of 0.4 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, while India, the second in the market, produced 11.2 m/t steel with an increase of 12.9 percent compared to June 2022.
India was followed by Japan, USA, Russia and South Korea, respectively
Japan produced 7.3 m/t of steel, down -1.7 percent from June 2022. The USA produced 6.8 m/t of steel, up 0.5% compared to June 2022. Russia produced 5.8 m/t of crude steel, down 3.8 percent, and South Korea 5.5 m/t, down 0.9 percent.
Iran was the biggest hit on the list
Compared to June 2022, Iran was the one with the highest increase in the top 10 countries in the global market. Iran produced 3.2 m/t of crude steel, up 17.4 percent compared to the same period of last year. Germany, on the other hand, produced 2.9 m/t of steel, down -8.4 percent. Among the top 10 countries, it was the second country with the highest decline after Brazil.
Türkiye produced 2.9 million tons of crude steel in June
Türkiye ranked 10th among the top 10 countries in the global market. It showed a decrease of only -1.5 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. Turkey, which remains strong in the midst of the earthquake, the election period and the energy crisis, which is described as the disaster of the century in the country, is expected to compensate for its small losses in 2024. Turkey, which has a very small difference with Germany, continues to be one of the most important countries in the global market as the largest importer of scrap and its strong position in the market.
Brazil, on the other hand, produced 2.6 million tons of steel, down 12.5 percent compared to June 2022. Brazil is the country that lost the most value in production among the top 10 countries and took the 10th place.
