Automotive Industry Association (OSD) announced the production and export figures and market data for 2023. Accordingly, in 2023, automotive production increased by 9 percent compared to the previous year, reaching 1 million 468 thousand 393 units.
Automobile production increased by 18 percent and reached 952 thousand 667 units. The total figure with tractor production reached 1 million 525 thousand 963 units.
In 2023, commercial vehicle production decreased by 5 percent and light commercial vehicle production decreased by 7 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. In the heavy commercial vehicle group, production increased by 16 percent. During this period, the capacity utilization rate of the automotive industry was 74 percent.
Capacity utilization rates on a vehicle group basis were 74 percent in light vehicles (cars + light commercial vehicles), 91 percent in the truck group, 54 percent in the bus-midibus group and 75 percent in the tractor.
13 percent increase in exports
In 2023, automotive exports increased by 5 percent in terms of units compared to 2022, reaching 1 million 18 thousand 247. During this period, automobile exports increased by 16 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, while commercial vehicle exports decreased by 11 percent. Tractor exports also decreased by 8 percent compared to 2022, reaching 16 thousand 752.
According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly, total automotive industry exports maintained its top place in the sectoral export rankings with a share of 16 percent in 2023.
According to Uludağ Exporters' Associations (UIB) data, total automotive exports in 2023 increased by 13 percent compared to 2022, reaching 35.7 billion dollars. In euro terms, it increased by 10 percent to 33 billion euros. During this period, main industry exports increased by 16 percent and supply industry exports increased by 10 percent in dollar terms.
Total market in 2023 will be 1 million 283 thousand 952 units
Looking at the sales side, last year the total market grew by 55 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 1 million 283 thousand 952 units.
During this period, automobile sales increased by 63 percent and reached 967 thousand 341 units. Looking at the commercial vehicle market, an increase of 35 percent in total commercial vehicle sales, 17 percent in the heavy commercial vehicle market and 39 percent in the light commercial vehicle market was recorded in 2023 compared to the previous year.
