According to the statement made by the Ministry of Trade, steps were taken to revitalize economic and trade relations between the two countries and a roadmap consisting of five main topics was determined.
1. Revision of Customs Duties: As of January 11, 2025, the Syrian side decided to re-evaluate the customs duties applied equally to all countries and at all border gates for certain products.
2. Free Trade Agreement: After being suspended in 2011, it was agreed to start negotiations to revive the Türkiye-Syria Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with a more comprehensive economic partnership approach.
3. Economic and Commercial Cooperation: In order to revitalize the Syrian economy, it was decided to cooperate in areas such as trade in industrial and agricultural products, transit transportation, bilateral transportation and contracting. It was stated that Turkish companies will play a key role in the reconstruction of Syria and will be pioneers in the revival of Syrian industry.
4. Participation of Turkish Companies in Reconstruction Areas, Works and Projects throughout Syria: Coordination will be ensured with the Syrian administration to ensure that Turkish companies, which have so far provided services only in certain regions of Syria, will operate throughout the country in the new period and take advantage of investment opportunities.
5. Cooperation in Border Gates and Customs: It was decided to strengthen the existing coordination in order to manage the increasing traffic at the commercial crossing points with Syria faster and more efficiently.
These important steps to revitalize trade and economic relations between Türkiye and Syria aim to strengthen the two countries' regional trade and economic cooperation. The roadmap set out by the parties aims to lay the foundations for future partnerships.
