Turkish Metal Workers' Union: They think we are like a 'crisis defence'

The negotiations for the new term collective bargaining agreement of the Turkish Metal Union, which announced that it wants an 80 per cent increase and 150 per cent increase in social rights in the draft prepared based on the opinions of 10 thousand members working in MESS-affiliated workplaces, will start tomorrow. Pevrul Kavlak, President of the Turkish Metal Workers' Union, stated that there is an economic crisis every 10 years and the cost is always taken out of the employees and said, "They think that we are like a 'crisis defence', a salve for everything that goes wrong in the country's economy. They squeeze and squeeze."

Pevrul Kavlak said that the economic crisis and high inflation destroyed the gains of the workers and added, "We have become victims of conditions that we did not cause. Our gains have been lost one by one. This is the only way we have been able to protect the sweat of our brow." Ahead of the new term collective labour agreement negotiations, the Turkish Metal Workers' Union sent harsh messages to MESS. Pevrul Kavlak, the General President of the union, said: "They think that we are like a 'anti-crisis' ointment for everything that goes wrong in the country's economy. They squeeze us more and more".
