According to the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TÇÜD), Türkiye's scrap imports by country groups were announced.
In the first 5 months of 2023, compared to the same period of the previous year, Türkiye's scrap imports increased in the Middle East and North Africa.
Europe managed to maintain its leadership again
Türkiye's scrap imports to Europe decreased by 16% compared to the January - May period of last year.
With this decrease, compared to the first 5 months of last year, European scrap exports in the same period of this year decreased from 5 million 661 thousand tons to 4 million 757 thousand tons.
US scrap exports to Türkiye remained in 2nd place in the first 5 months of this year
Türkiye's scrap imports to the US decreased by 7% (131 thousand tons) to 1 million 744 thousand tons in the same period of this year compared to January - May last year.
The UK managed to rank 3rd despite a 17% decrease in the same period of this year compared to the January - May period of last year
Compared to the first 5 months of last year, scrap imports from Middle East and North African countries increased by 8% and 11%, respectively.
Middle East countries increased from 295 thousand tons to 319 thousand tons and North Africa countries increased from 286 thousand tons to 318 thousand tons.
Latin America's scrap exports decreased by 56% (335 thousand tons) from 5th to 6th place
Compared to the first 5 months of last year, Latin America's scrap exports to Türkiye dropped from 596 thousand tons to 262 thousand tons in the same period of this year.
While the CIS was in the top 4 in the January-May period of last year, it dropped to 7th place in the same period of this year
Türkiye's scrap imports to the CIS fell by 91% from 777 thousand tons to 73 thousand tons.
Far Eastern countries' scrap exports to Türkiye decreased by 57% in the January-May period of this year compared to the same period last year, from 1,718 tons to 740 tons.
