According to the released data, Turkey's scrap imports in October 2022 decreased by 9.4 month on month to 1,449,538 mt.
Turkey's scrap imports stood at 1,599,705 mt in the same month of last year.
While scrap imports in October 2021 were $ 739,913 in monthly value, this year it decreased by 23.7 percent and remained at the level of $ 564,270.
The EU, which is the number one supplier in Turkey's scrap imports, was followed by the USA and the UK.
The energy crises and aggressive market pressures play a major role in this decrease. The decrease in Turkish domestic steel trade due to the weakening of the lira slightly reduced Turkish producers' demand for scrap cargo and there was no significant increase in rebar export activities to compensate.
