Turkey's first boron carbide production plant was opened

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke at the Opening Ceremony of the Bandırma Eti Mineral Boron Carbide Production Plant.

Erdogan stated that the Bandırma Boron Carbide Production Plant, the investment cost of which is 80 million dollars, will be one of the first world-class facilities of our country in this field. The important headings from President Erdogan's speech are as follows,

-Application areas such as boron carbide, armor wear-resistant mechanical parts production are also indispensable for the defense industry. It is possible to see these products in many places, from personnel vests to protected plates.

-Boron is indispensable as a neutron sequester in nuclear facilities. Boron carbide makes a strategic contribution to our country. The losses caused by embargoes will be eliminated.

-We will convert our 694 million ton rare earth element reserve discovered in Eskişehir into profit with a facility that will process 1200 tons of ore annually.

-We are determined to activate all the values of our country with a system that will start with raw materials and extend to the final product.

-Turkey stands in an advantageous place with both logistical advantages and trained manpower capacity. The strong infrastructure we have provided to our country in every field from transportation to energy, from sports to social security provides the basis for this advantage.

-The natural disasters and other obstacles we experience cannot distract us from our goals. It is a fact that we have passed through difficult tests in recent years. We have suffered difficulties for 2 years due to Covid-19.

-While we were overcoming this problem, we were among the ruins of the 6 February earthquake. The floods caused by the heavy rains caused disaster after disaster in the earthquake area. May Allah treat all our brothers and sisters who lost their lives with his mercy.

-We will erase the traces of the disaster. We will finish permanent housing within a year. From tent cities to container cities and on the one hand to prefabricated houses, we are concerned not to leave our citizens out in the open.

Production of 1000 tons per year

According to the statement made by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, 1000 tons of boron carbide will be produced annually at the facility, where 279 people will be employed when it operates at full capacity. Boron carbide, which is the third hardest substance after diamond and cubic boron, is used in many fields, especially in the defense industry.
