Turkey's crude steel production decreased in April!

According to the statements made; crude steel production was affected by the major earthquake in Kahramanmaraş province of Turkey in February.

In addition, the decrease in production at electric arc furnaces and integrated plants in April affected the total crude steel production of that month.

In the January-April period of 2023, crude steel production decreased drastically due to the increase in imports due to the temporary suspension of production activities at electric arc furnaces and integrated plants in the earthquake zone due to necessities.

According to statistics, in the January-April period, Turkey's total crude steel production was 10 million 100 thousand tonnes.

In January 2023, electric arc furnace plants produced 1 million 789 thousand tonnes and integrated plants produced 816 thousand tonnes of crude steel, reaching a total of 2 million 605 thousand tonnes.

In February, crude steel production in integrated plants almost halved compared to January

In addition, crude steel production in electric arc furnace plants decreased slightly by 8% to 1 million 646 thousand tonnes in February, while crude steel production in integrated plants decreased by 43.9% to 458 thousand tonnes in the same period. Thus, total crude steel production in February decreased by 19.2% compared to the previous month to 2 million 104 thousand tonnes.

In March this year, crude steel production at electric arc furnaces broke the record of the first four months

Crude steel production in electric arc furnaces amounted to 2 million 184 thousand tonnes in March, up 22.1% and 32.7% compared to January and February of the same year, respectively.

In integrated plants, crude steel production amounted to 529 thousand tonnes in March, down by 35.2% compared to January and up by 15.5% compared to February.

Thus, total crude steel production increased by 4.1% and 28.9% compared to January and February, respectively, to 2 million 713 thousand tonnes in March, reaching the highest level in 4 months.

In April, crude steel production in electric arc furnace plants decreased compared to March, but increased compared to January and February.

In the same period, crude steel production in integrated plants increased compared to February and March, but decreased compared to January.

On the other hand, crude steel production in integrated plants increased to 718 thousand tonnes in April and caught up with January.

According to 2022 - 2023 January - April period;

In April, crude steel production decreased by 20.6% compared to last year, from 3 million 374 thousand tonnes to 2 million 678 thousand tonnes

In March, crude steel production decreased by 18.6 compared to the same month of the previous year to 2 million 713 thousand tonnes. In addition, crude steel production in this period almost caught up with February 2022.
