Turkey dropped to 10th place in April
Turkish Steel Producers Association announced its report for April. According to the report, world crude steel production decreased by 2.4% in April 2023 compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 161 million 377 thousand tonnes. Turkey produced 2 million 678 thousand tonnes of crude steel in April with a decrease of 20.6% compared to the same month of the previous year and ranked 10th.
Finished steel production in Turkey decreased by 7.4% y-o-y to 3.2 million tonnes
In April, crude steel production decreased by 20.6% y-o-y, while finished steel production decreased by 7.4% y-o-y to 3.2 million tonnes. The lower level of decrease in finished products production compared to crude steel production stemmed from the 30.4% increase in imports. Finished product consumption increased by 16.2% to 3.5 million tonnes.
Consumption increased despite the decrease in flat product production
In April, flat product production decreased by 11.3% to 1.2 million tonnes, while flat product consumption increased by 4.6% to 1.7 million tonnes. Long product production decreased by 4.8% and consumption increased by 30%.
