According to the Turkish Statistical Institute ( TUIK), in the first quarter of 2023, Turkey exported around 129,000 tonnes of wire rod, down 56.5% y-o-y, while importing 170,700 tonnes of wire rod, up 54.3% y-o-y.
Turkey, which usually exported more wire rod than it imported in previous years, switched from net exporter to net importer in the first quarter of this year.
According to the origin of imports, Russia accounted for 45 percent, Europe 29 percent, Asia 16 percent and the Middle East and North Africa region 10 percent.
In the first quarter, Middle East and North African countries exported about 67,100 tonnes of wire rod from Turkey, down 26 percent y-o-y; Europe imported 25,700 tonnes, down 80.9 percent y-o-y; and the Americas imported 15,800 tonnes, down 57 percent y-o-y.
