Turkey ranked 1st in EU steel exports between 2020 and 2022, maintaining its leadership for 3 years.

In 2020, Turkey's steel exports to Europe peaked at 3 million 780 thousand tons. In 2021, it maintained its leadership and increased by 17.7% compared to 2020 and reached 4 million 448 thousand tons.

Europe's steel imports from Turkey fell in 2022

In 2021, Europe's steel imports from Turkey peaked at 4,449,000 tons, while this figure decreased by 6.5% to 4,158,000 tons in 2022.

The war between Russia and Ukraine affected the ranking of Europe's steel imports, excluding stainless steel, to non-EU countries in 2022.

Europe's steel imports to Russia hit a record high in 2021

European steel imports to Russia increased by 19% in 2021 compared to 2020, from 3,132,000 tons to 3,727,000 tons.

The decline in Ukraine and Russia's steel exports to Europe in 2022 caused South Korea to rise to 2nd place in 2022.

India maintained its 3rd place in 2021 and 2022

India's steel exports to Europe increased sharply by 98% in 2021 compared to 2020, from 1,695,000 tons to 3,365,000 tons, moving from 5th to 3rd place.

India's steel exports decreased by 26.5% in 2022 compared to 2021, but this did not change its ranking and it maintained its position in the ranking with 2 million 473 thousand tons of exports.

China and Taiwan are the two major countries showing an increase in Europe's steel imports!

From 2021 to 2022, China and Taiwan's steel exports to Europe increased by 59% and 26% respectively.

While China ranked 7th in European steel exports in 2020 with 1 million 118 thousand tons, it fell to 9th place in 2021 despite exporting 1 million 361 thousand tons of steel.

In 2022, Europe's steel imports from China increased to 2 million 163 thousand tons and rose to 4th place.

In 2022, Taiwan's steel exports to the EU increased to 1 million 794 thousand tons compared to 2021.

In 2020, Taiwan ranked 8th with 803 thousand tons, while in 2021, it maintained its 8th place despite exporting 1 million 423 thousand tons of steel, a record increase of 77% compared to 2020.

China surpassed 4 countries in steel exports in 2022 compared to 2021, while Taiwan surpassed 3 countries.

In 2021, Taiwan's steel exports to Europe were ahead of China. On the other hand, China surpassed Taiwan in 2022 with a record rise in exports.

China and Taiwan's export surge has affected the position of the UK and Vietnam

In 2021, the UK exported 1 million 723 thousand tons of steel to Europe, ranking 5th. In 2022, it fell to 1,681,000 tons, ranking 6th. The UK's 2.4% decline led to a one-place drop in 2022.

Vietnam's decline of 4.3% also led to a one-place drop in 2022 compared to 2021, just like the UK. European steel imports from Vietnam fell from 1,532,000 tons to 1,465,000 tons.

Japan's steel exports to Europe rise from 18th to 8th place from 2020 to 2022, Japan rises from the ashes

Japan's steel exports to the EU in 2020 were 238 thousand tons. In 2021, it increased to 839 thousand tons, an increase of 3 and a half times compared to 2020.

With this increase, it rose from 18th to 11th place. In 2022 compared to 2021, it increased by 72% to 1 million 445 thousand tons, an increase of 6 times from 2020 to 2022.

Egypt showed a sharp increase of 2.7 times in 2021 compared to 2020

From 2020 to 2021, it managed to enter the top 10, rising from 14th to 10th place. In 2022, it dropped one place and was not in the top 10.

Egypt's exports to Europe in 2021 increased from 347,000 tons to 954,000 tons compared to 2020, ahead of Japan's exports to Europe. In 2022, it decreased to 786 thousand tons compared to 2021.

According to statistical forecasts, Japan's rise from 11th to 8th place in 2022 caused Egypt to slip back one place.

In 2020, Brazil's steel exports to Europe ranked 13th with 374,000 tons, while in 2021 they fell to 235,000 tons, down 37% compared to 2020.

Malaysia dropped from 25th to 28th place in the country ranking despite a 34% increase from 26 thousand tons to 34 thousand tons in 2021 compared to 2020.
