T.C. Upon the notification of the General Directorate of Imports of the Ministry of Commerce, as a result of the application made by Tunisia to the World Trade Organization (WTO) Safeguards Committee, it was reported that protection measures have started to be implemented against the import of "iron or non-alloy steel wires used in furniture springs".
According to the notification published by the WTO on July 21, 2022, as a result of the examination carried out by Tunisia, negative effects such as a decrease in the sales of the domestic producer, an increase in losses and a decrease in employment were detected, therefore it was decided to take protective measures.
Safeguard measures will continue for three years, starting from November 28, 2023, and will be limited by quotas on imports. The determined quota amounts are as follows:
The above safeguard measure shall be implemented for three years from 28 November 2023; the quota quantity to be applied from 28 November 2023 to 30 November 2024 shall be 764 tons, the quota quantity to be applied in the period from 1 December 2024 to 30 November 2025 shall be 1,020 tons, and the quota quantity to be applied in the period from 1 December 2025 to 30 November 2026 shall be 1,274 tons.
