Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) announced the labor input indexes for the last quarter of last year.
According to this; The employment index in the total of industry, construction and trade-service sectors increased by 2.3 percent in the 4th quarter of 2023 compared to the same quarter of the previous year. When the subsectors are examined, the index increased by 11.1 percent in the construction sector, 2.5 percent in the trade-service sectors, and decreased by 0.9 percent in the industrial sector.
The total hours worked index in the industry, construction and trade-service sectors increased by 1.5 percent in the October-December period of last year, compared to the same period of the previous year.
When sub-sectors are examined, the index increased by 9.7 percent in the construction sector and 1.4 percent in the trade-service sectors, while it decreased by 1.2 percent in the industrial sector.
The gross wage-salary index increased by 109.9 percent in the 4th quarter of last year compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
When sub-sectors are examined, the index increased by 104.6 percent in the industrial sector, 135.6 percent in the construction sector and 110.3 percent in the trade-service sectors.
The employment index in the total of industry, construction and trade-service sectors increased by 0.1 percent in the 4th quarter of last year compared to the previous period.
When the subsectors are examined, the index increased by 1.5 percent in the construction sector, 0.4 percent in the trade-service sectors, and decreased by 0.7 percent in the industrial sector.
Increase in gross wage-salary indices
The total hours worked index in the industry, construction and trade-service sectors decreased by 0.6 percent in the 4th quarter of 2023 compared to the previous quarter.
When sub-sectors are examined, the index increased by 1.1 percent in the construction sector, decreased by 1.1 percent in the industrial sector and 0.7 percent in the trade-service sector.
The gross wage-salary index increased by 16.2 percent in the 4th quarter of 2023 compared to the previous quarter.
When sub-sectors are examined, the index increased by 16.6 percent in the industrial sector, 18.6 percent in the construction sector and 15.6 percent in the trade-service sectors.
The hourly labor cost index in the total of industry, construction and trade-service sectors increased by 108.8 percent in the 4th quarter of 2023 compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
When the sub-sectors are examined, the index showed an increase of 108.7 percent in the industry sector, 116.4 percent in the construction sector and 109.4 percent in the trade-service sectors.
Increase in hourly earnings index in industry, construction and trade-service sectors
The hourly earnings index in the total of industry, construction and trade-service sectors increased by 106.9 percent in the 4th quarter of 2023 compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
When the subsectors are examined, the index increased by 107 percent in the industrial sector, 114.8 percent in the construction sector and 107.3 percent in the trade-service sectors.
The labor cost index excluding hourly earnings in the total of industry, construction and trade-service sectors increased by 119.5 percent on an annual basis in the 4th quarter of 2023.
When the sub-sectors are examined, an increase of 117.5 percent in the industrial sector, 124.4 percent in the construction sector and 121.6 percent in the trade-service sectors was observed in the index.
The hourly labor cost index in the total of industry, construction and trade-service sectors increased by 16.6 percent in the 4th quarter of 2023 compared to the previous quarter.
When sub-sectors are examined, the index increased by 17.5 percent in the industrial sector, 17.5 percent in the construction sector and 16.1 percent in the trade-service sectors.
The hourly earnings index in the total of industry, construction and trade-service sectors increased by 16.9 percent in the 4th quarter of 2023 compared to the previous quarter.
When the subsectors are examined, the index showed an increase of 17.9 percent in the industrial sector, 17.3 percent in the construction sector and 16.4 percent in the trade-service sectors.
The labor cost index excluding hourly earnings in the total of industry, construction and trade-service sectors increased by 15.2 percent in the 4th quarter of 2023 compared to the previous period.
When sub-sectors are examined, the index increased by 15.9 percent in the industrial sector, 18.5 percent in the construction sector and 14.4 percent in the trade-service sectors.
