Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) published waste statistics for the manufacturing industry sector for 2022.

TÜİK: 109.2 million tons of waste was generated in the manufacturing industry in 2022

According to the published data, in 2022, a total of 109.2 million tons of waste was generated in manufacturing industries, workplaces, mining enterprises, thermal power plants, OIZs and households, of which 29.4 million tons were hazardous.

While the manufacturing industry accounted for 28 million tons of total workplace waste, 63.2 percent of that waste was sold or sent to licensed waste processing facilities. Mining produced 26.3 million tons of waste, 99.99 percent of which was mineral waste. Thermal power plants generated 27.8 million tons of waste.

The amount of waste generated as a result of infrastructure services and similar administrative activities of OIZ directorates was recorded as 323 thousand tons. Most of the collected waste was sent to licensed facilities or disposed of in regular landfill facilities.

In total, it was observed that waste services were provided in 1389 of 1391 municipalities. While most of the 30.3 million tons of waste collected in municipalities was sent to waste processing facilities, the average daily amount of waste per person was calculated as 1.03 kilograms.

A total of 133.2 million tons of waste was processed in waste processing plants. While 81.4 million tons of this waste was disposed of, 51.7 million tons were recycled. 81 million tons of waste were disposed of in regular storage facilities.

Waste statistics were collected from municipalities, manufacturing workplaces, thermal power plants, OIZ directorates, mining companies and waste disposal facilities in Turkey.
