TSE ensured that $664 million worth of domestic products were used in Akkuyu NGS

Turkish Standards Institute President Mahmut Sami Şahin reported that as a result of the services provided with the authorization of the institution, approximately 664 million dollars worth of domestic materials were procured from industrialists and used in the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant Project.

TSE ensured that $664 million worth of domestic products were used in Akkuyu NGS

According to the statement made by TSE, Şahin visited the power plant and met with Akkuyu Nuclear Inc. General Manager Sergei Butckikh.

Şahin noted that their cooperation on the Akkuyu NPP Project will continue.

Şahin, who drew attention to the fact that TSE provides various supervision and training services, stated that they provide technical support within the scope of construction, field, assembly and manufacturing inspections with the approval of manufacturers within the scope of the project.

Şahin also stated that as an independent supervision company, they carry out supervision activities in the facilities under construction at Akkuyu NPP and provide various trainings on related subjects.

The role of local institutions in Türkiye's nuclear projects will increase

Emphasizing that they aim to increase the effectiveness of construction supervision and conformity assessment activities in nuclear projects carried out and planned in Turkey, Şahin stated that they have a strategy to provide service as a local institution in the widest scope in NPPs to be built in the country, especially in Sinop.

Şahin underlined that they aim to provide service in Türkiye and internationally with the work they have completed as TSE in the construction of the NPP.

Şahin, who drew attention to the strategic and commercial importance of TSE's presence in this project, its presence in the global nuclear energy market through technology export and increasing the share of localization, said, "TSE was authorized as the Main Material Approval Organization (MMO) on January 7, 2020. Material approval processes were carried out meticulously to increase local contribution."

Şahin gave information that they prepared comparison reports between application projects and GOST standards and national legislation as a material approval organization in order to increase local contribution in products that are not in the nuclear safety class, and conveyed that the technical decisions created in line with these reports were shared with the contractor companies and the products were certified after approval was given.

Emphasizing that this process has contributed to the strengthening of the industrialists’ positions in the sector, Şahin noted the following:

“As a result of the services we provided with the authorization of TSE, approximately 664 million dollars worth of domestic materials were procured from our industrialists and used in the Akkuyu NGS Project. 300 million dollars worth of domestic materials were procured for construction materials and reinforcement steel, and 364 million dollars worth of domestic materials were procured from equipment manufacturers, contributing to the project. The type and special tests of these materials were carried out in our institute laboratories and the products were certified.”
