Trump's tariff move! Tariffs on China raised to 125%, 90-day exemption for 75 countries

US President Donald Trump announced that the tariffs on China have been raised to 125%, while additional tariffs have been suspended for 90 days for more than 75 countries that have contacted them and have not retaliated against the US.

Trump's tariff move! Tariffs on China raised to 125%, 90-day exemption for 75 countries

Trump announced on his Truth Social account that these countries will only pay a 10% tax. He sent new and harsh messages to China. “At some point, hopefully in the near future, China will realize that its days of ripping off the United States and other countries are no longer sustainable or acceptable,” Trump stated, sharing the reasoning behind his decision to increase tariffs.

Referring to conversations with officials from the US Department of Commerce, the Treasury Department and the US Trade Representative, Trump stated that more than 75 countries had contacted them. After these countries did not retaliate against the US, he said that the additional tariffs were suspended for 90 days and a 10% tariff would be applied during this period.

Harsh Messages for China

Trump stated that tariffs against China have reached 125% in total and said, "They want to make a deal, but they don't know exactly how to do it. But they will understand this in the process of solving it."

Evaluating the issue at an event organized in the garden of the White House, Trump added, "Our door is open to anyone who wants to deal with them. We can make a trade deal with anyone, as long as it's fair. But retaliatory countries like China are making a big mistake."

Speaking about Chinese President Xi Jinping, Trump noted that "Xi is a proud man. I know him very well. They want to make a deal, but they don't know how to do it yet," Trump said, noting that the Chinese side is also open to negotiations.

Trump argued that China is the country that abuses the current global trade system the most and said, "Somebody had to do what I did. They had to stop them because it was not sustainable."

“There is a tremendous demand”

Trump expressed that they have received an intense demand from countries that want to make a trade agreement with the US and that they are open to an agreement with the European Union, provided that it is fair. "Nothing is over yet. There is a tremendous demand from many countries, including China. China also wants to make a deal," he continued.

Trump explained the reason for the 90-day pause with the following words: “People were getting a little out of line, a little excited and scared because we have a big job to do.”

Finally, emphasizing that they can no longer turn a blind eye to China's behavior in the international trade order, Trump reiterated that they are ready to make deals with anyone, as long as they are fair.
