U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he would introduce a 25% tariff on steel and aluminum imports on Monday.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One while traveling from Florida to New Orleans to attend the Super Bowl, Trump said, "A 25% tariff will be applied to all steel coming into the U.S." He also stated that aluminum would be subject to the same tariff rate.
Trump mentioned that he would announce these tariffs on Monday and confirmed that aluminum and steel from Canada and Mexico would also be subject to them.
He added that on Tuesday or Wednesday, he would announce tariffs based on the principle of reciprocity, saying, "If they impose a 130% tax on us while we take nothing from them, that won't continue."
