Tosyalı published its second sustainability report

As Türkiye's global green steel producer, Tosyalı published its second sustainability report prepared in accordance with GRI standards. Covering the 2022 operating period, the report comprehensively presents the sustainability efforts carried out under three different impact areas, namely "Carbon-Free Steel", "Responsible Ecosystem Management" and "Future of Business".

Prevented 281 thousand tons of greenhouse gas emissions in 2022

The report shows that Tosyalı reduced its greenhouse gas intensity from its operations in Türkiye by 26% in 2022 as a result of the intensity calculation based on Scope-1 and Scope-2 emissions. Tosyalı also reduced greenhouse gas emissions from its operations in Türkiye by 21% compared to the previous year, preventing approximately 281 thousand tons of greenhouse gas emissions. Thanks to Tosyalı's efforts in many areas such as zero waste, circular production and recycling, the amount of non-hazardous waste recycled in Turkish operations reached 99.9%.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tosyalı Holding Fuat Tosyalı stated that they have started to receive the positive results of their sustainability investments and continued : "As Tosyalı, we believe that carbon-free, green steel production is possible and we continue to make value-creating investments for this purpose. The focus of all the investments we make in our existing facilities and new facilities is sustainability. We develop productive and efficient plant infrastructures that emit less carbon, consume less water and energy, and use renewable energy. We are calculating our emissions on a product basis and certifying them with international certificates. With our green steel products, we are already ready for the carbon border adjustment mechanism that will start in 2026 as part of the EU Green Deal. After Scope-1 and Scope-2, we calculated our Scope 3 emissions for the first time in this report, demonstrating our determination to further reduce our emissions in all our business processes. As one of the world's leading green steel producers, we will continue to inspire our entire industry and stakeholders for sustainable living with our investments in technology, innovation, digitalization, circular economy and clean energy sources such as solar and hydrogen."

Despite increased production, water consumption reduced by 11%

As part of its efforts to reduce water consumption, Tosyalı continues to implement many projects such as closed cycle systems, various discharge methods and the re-cooling of process water with cooling towers. Thanks to these projects, the company reduced its water consumption by 11% in 2022 compared to the previous year despite the increased production amount.

90% of Tosyalı's suppliers are local producers

Tosyalı expanded its supplier network while continuing to grow, increasing the total number of suppliers by 46% in 2022 compared to the previous year. Considering contributing to the development of the region in which it operates as a top priority, the number of local suppliers increased by more than 40% in 2022 compared to the previous year. With this strong increase, 90% of Tosyalı's suppliers were local producers.

Sustainability is also the focus in social investments

Recognizing social investments as a debt of the heart, Tosyalı continues to mobilize all its resources in this regard. With the idea that the prerequisite for being a good company is to leave a better future for future generations, Tosyalı prioritizes social projects that will add value to social life. With this understanding, Tosyalı made many social investments in 2022 and hosted young artists at Contemporary Istanbul with the "Artist in Residence" program as part of its sustainability-oriented collaboration with the Contemporary Istanbul Foundation to upcycle scrap waste into works of art.

Employee commitment reached 74%

Considering human resources as its most valuable asset for the future of its business and its sector, Tosyalı continues to invest in the training and development of its human resources. With this approach, Tosyalı increased the total training hours organized for its employees by 21% in 2022 compared to the previous year. It increased OHS training hours per employee by 58% compared to the previous year. Tosyalı continues to act with the awareness that creating a work environment that is productive, innovative and open to development will increase the sense of belonging and loyalty. With this approach, Tosyalı sensitively evaluates the suggestions and requests from its employees. In this regard, the company implemented many of the suggestions received from its employees to the Human Resources Suggestion System in 2022. With all these efforts, Tosyalı's employee engagement score reached 74%, exceeding the pre-pandemic period.
