Alcoa Corporation announced that three of its facilities in Brazil and Spain have received prestigious certification from the Aluminum Stewardship Initiative (ASI). The Alcoa certifications are for the Juruti bauxite mine in Brazil, the Alumar aluminum refinery near São Luís, Brazil, and the aluminum smelter in San Ciprián, Spain. The certificates are valid for three years.
Roy Harvey, Alcoa's President and Chief Executive Officer, said the company is honored that three facilities have received certification in recognition of its sustainable approach in the industry. The certification differentiates the company on sustainability. Alcoa will continue its efforts to produce bauxite and aluminum responsibly, he added.
ASI is a global sustainability certification program for the aluminum industry, covering producers of metal-containing products.
