Thomas Bünger has been announced as the new CEO of ArcelorMittal Germany. Since February 2024, he successfully served as the CEO of the flat steel plants in Bremen and Eisenhüttenstadt. He will now hold the position of Chairman of the Management Board at ArcelorMittal Germany Holding.
Expressing his thoughts, the new CEO Thomas Bünger stated, “We are going through a very challenging period as a company and as an industry. I am now taking on the responsibility of ArcelorMittal Germany, and we aim to address the issues our industry faces alongside our colleagues at the four major production facilities in Germany. During this time, it is particularly important for us to have fair and comparable competitive conditions, including competitive energy prices in Germany, the protection of foreign trade, and CO2 border adjustments. We expect the next German government to act swiftly to ensure the future success of steel production.”
Prior to this role, Bünger served as CEO of the London-based First Tin until 2024 and held various significant positions at Aurubis in Hamburg, including roles responsible for operations and technology as a member of the Executive Board.
