The World Economic Forum (WEF), also known as the Davos Summit, started in Davos, Switzerland, after a 2-year break due to the Kovid-19 outbreak.
Klaus Schwab, Founding Chairman of WEF, reminded that the theme of the Summit, which can be held for the first time since January 2020, was determined as "Date at the turning point; Government policies and business world strategies".
Stating that they will focus on four main issues, including the Russia-Ukraine war, in Davos this year, Schwab invited the participants in the hall to stand up and applaud for Ukraine.
Schwab stated that other main topics will be the Kovid-19 outbreak, climate change and the future of the global economy.
High global inflation emphasis
Expressing that they are very concerned about the future of the global economy, Schwab drew attention to the high inflation around the world.
Noting that hundreds of millions of people may become poorer as a result of the course of the economy, Schwab said, "Probably tens of millions of people will starve to death. We should all be really concerned about these issues." said.
Schwab said he is confident that the Davos Summit will be successful.
"Russia's attack on Ukraine is brutal"
Speaking on behalf of the host country, Swiss Confederation President Ignazio Cassis stated that while the world was struggling with the Kovid-19 epidemic, Russia attacked Ukraine.
Cassis underlined that Russia's attack on Ukraine was "brutal" and that Russia violated international law and international human rights law.
Noting that they condemned Russia in the strongest way, Cassis also stated that they took a series of sanctions against this country.
"Russia's House of War Crimes"
In Davos, where Russia was not invited this year due to the Ukraine attack, the name of the "Russian House", which has been a frequent destination for Russian politicians and business people in recent years, has been changed to "Russia's War Crimes House".
The inscription "House of War Crimes of Russia" was hung in different parts of the building, whose name was changed by Ukrainian artists.
The forum, also known as the Davos Summit, which was held for the 50th time in January 2020, was postponed for two years in a row due to the Kovid-19 outbreak, and online meetings were held as an alternative.
The forum, which was held for the first time in history and will end on May 26, is attended by 50 state leaders, 300 government representatives and approximately 2,500 global business officials.
