UK Metals Expo, the leading event bringing together the engineering, manufacturing and construction sectors, opened its doors at Birmingham's National Exhibition Center (NEC).

The event kicked off with a keynote speech by Chris Macdonald, Labour MP for Stockton North and sustainable development advocate. Macdonald delivered key messages on the UK's industrial strategy under the new government and emphasized social equality and sustainable development.

Macdonald's speech was followed by a panel discussion with Johnathan Dudley, Head of Manufacturing Industry at Crowe LLP, Kirsty Davies-Chinnock, Managing Director of Professional Polishing Services, Rachel Eade, Chair of the UK Metals Council (UKMC) and Steve Morley, Chair of the Confederation of British Metalforming (CBM). The panel revealed the findings of the largest ever survey on the State of the UK Metals Sector. The panelists discussed the strategic opportunities for growth and resilience in the metals supply chain and made important conclusions about the future of the industry.

One of the highlights of the event, “The View from the Top”, was moderated by Lord Rupert Redesdale, Conference Chairman of UK Metals Expo, and Rajesh Nair, CEO of Tata Steel UK. This session explored in detail the transformation required to build a sustainable and successful business in today's challenging economic climate.

It also covered carbon steel market trends and price dynamics, successful adoption of automation in organizational contexts, mapping a cleaner future for non-ferrous and light metals, the business case for titanium production in the UK, and the business case for titanium production in the UK.
