Nedip Şimşek, Vice President of the Public Contractors and Businesspeople Association (KAMİAD), made an assessment about the houses to be built in the regions affected by the earthquakes as of March. Stating that since the first moment of the earthquake, many companies have provided the support of machinery, equipment, containers and personnel, Şimşek said that they have provided engineer support to damage assessment studies.
Şimşek reported that as an association, they are preparing a report on their findings in the earthquake region. Stating that the tenders for the houses to be built by TOKİ have started and the contracting companies have entered these tenders, Şimşek said:
“Rebar prices are increasing”
"TOKI has issued tenders for provinces such as Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş, but we are experiencing difficulties here due to stockpiling raw materials. That's all the contracting companies are afraid of.
For example, for insulation materials, it is said that 'we do not deliver before 1 year'. There is an increase in iron prices under the pretext of damaging the iron and steel facilities in the region. This situation in the supply of raw materials scares our contractor companies. As public contractors, we are afraid of encountering an increase in raw material prices, but we are entering tenders alongside our state as always."
Pointing out that TOKI has opened a tender in packages of 400-500 houses, Şimşek said, "We recommend that these houses be tendered in smaller pieces for the rapid completion. Instead of burdening a single contractor to complete these houses within 1 year, it would be more accurate to share these works with many contractors. There are companies that can handle 500 housing units, but if the tender is made in smaller pieces, it will be completed faster."
"Soil survey is important"
Şimşek, reminding that there is a "tunnel formwork" requirement in TOKİ residences, said, "There is a shortage of tunnel molds in the market. If the production is accelerated in terms of industry, we will finish the houses faster." Emphasizing the importance of conducting ground surveys in addition to contracting services in the housing construction process in Turkey, Şimşek said: "Ground surveys are already being carried out in TOKİ residences.
For this reason, TOKİ residences were not affected in the earthquake. TOKİ residences were not affected because they were not multi-storey and curtain concrete was used, but there is a problem in private sector houses because there is no ground survey even if the contractor does his job well. At the same time, construction in agricultural areas should be avoided."
"TOKI hit the first dig for 855 houses''
After the earthquake disaster that affected 10 provinces based in Kahramanmaraş, the works continue rapidly. The construction of citizens' housing began rapidly. After the technical issues such as projecting and soil survey were completed, contracts were signed for the appropriate areas and construction began.
According to the statement made by the Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum on Twitter, the first excavation was hit for the construction of 855 houses to be built in Nurdağı and Islahiye in the first stage through TOKI. The minister's statements are as follows: "All our efforts are to bring our citizens to their homes as soon as possible. We immediately start working in the areas where we have signed the contracts and the ground survey works have been completed! With the help of TOKI, we hit the first dig for our 855 houses that we will build in Nurdağı and İslahiye in the first stage."
