Poland has come under increasing pressure from Europe in recent years as coal continues to dominate the energy sector. However, the stake in the energy source, which Poland also provides largely independently, has become an advantage in the current circumstances.
According to Paul Lawrence, finance director of the CMC Poland mini-plant owned by the American company Commercial Metals Company (CMC), the increase in electricity tariffs in Poland was recorded as much lower than in other European countries where natural gas is widely used.
Many European longs producers said they have introduced special price surcharges to offset the rise in electricity and gas costs. However, in CMC Poland, energy costs increased much less. This increases the competitiveness of the company.
In the fiscal year 2020/2021 (September/August), the rebar, wire rod and other long products producer shipped 1.61 million tons of steel products, 10% more than in the previous period. In August 2021, the company commissioned its third section rolling mill with an annual capacity of 200,000 tons and has already brought it to design capacity.
