The copper industry expects support to reach 2022 figures

The copper industry also demands support, especially from countries such as Uzbekistan, to prevent subsidized products from entering the domestic market. It is stated that by providing these supports, the opportunities of the sector can be evaluated in 2024. It is stated that the sector has growth potential in the future as the areas of use of copper increase. It is important to support the sector and encourage investments.

Sevgür Arslanpay, Vice President of Istanbul Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters Association (IDDMİB) and Chairman of the Copper Committee, states that thanks to the high conductivity of copper, it is used in areas such as cables, generators and transformers, and that renewable energy and electric vehicle investments are an opportunity.

He states that copper is widely used in electrical and electronics, energy, transportation, automotive, construction, jewelry, ornaments and chemical sectors and that the need in these sectors is increasing.

Arslanpay emphasizes that the most important opportunities for the copper industry are renewable energy and electric vehicles.

Stating that they have the structure to supply both domestic and foreign markets, Arslanpay states that this opportunity is important for Turkey. In order to take advantage of these opportunities

They state that they need financial support and expect measures to be taken against subsidized products entering the domestic market.

Arslanpay states that there was a decrease of 13.53% in the copper industry's exports in 2023, but the figure increased to 4 billion dollars with indirect exports. He says that despite the decrease in copper prices, export unit prices are showing an increasing trend, that 2024 will be a bit difficult, but they expect a positive atmosphere from the second half and they can reach the 2022 figures.
