The bill that emerged in the chip crisis reached 210 billion dollars!

The chip crisis, which emerged with the increase in the demand for electronic devices such as tablets and phones after the pandemic, continues to create a crisis in the world. While many companies had to suspend production, the first sector affected by the global crisis was automotive. While the cost of the chip crisis only reached 210 billion dollars for the automotive industry, it is estimated that the cost of the crisis to the global economy will reach a size of 500 billion dollars.

The bill that emerged in the chip crisis reached 210 billion dollars!

The use of computers, smart devices, tablets and game consoles increased the demand for chips due to the fact that people were closed to their homes during the epidemic, and they did their education, business and entertainment activities from home. Chips, which are used in many fields from electronics to mobile phones, from the defense industry to the automotive industry, have almost fallen into the black market all over the world. Giant brands had to pause their production.

THE COST TO THE GLOBAL ECONOMY CAN REACH US $500 BILLION

Likewise, world-famous mobile phone manufacturers had to cut their production. Apple, Huawei and Samsung revised their sales targets downward. With the increasing demand, the interruption of the production of chip factories in the Far East due to the pandemic triggered the crisis even more. The cost of the chip crisis only to the global automotive industry was 210 billion dollars. It is estimated that the cost of the chip crisis to the global economy will reach 500 billion dollars.

THE CRISIS CAN LAST UNTIL THE END OF 2022

The first sector to be affected by the global chip crisis was automotive. In the statement made by GM Motors, one of the largest automotive manufacturers in the world, it was stated that the industry, which survived the shock of the pandemic, entered the bottleneck again due to the absence of chips. The company announced that the 'start-stop' feature will not be available in 2021 2021-2022 model vehicles. He also announced that the feature that turns off the engine completely when the vehicle is not in motion will not be available on Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV SUV models. Representatives of the French automotive industry stated that it will not be possible to meet the sales target of 1.8 million units set at the end of 2021. Volkswagen's brands such as Audi and Porsche also announced to the public that the effects of the crisis would continue until the second half of 2022.

MANY COMPANIES HAVE TO CUT PRODUCTION

The ongoing global chip crisis has begun to be felt seriously in Turkey as well. Due to the fact that the supply shortage in the automotive sector lasted longer than anticipated, the annual export target was revised down to 80,000 units. In our country, where the demand in this field is increasing day by day, many companies had to pause their production or revise their targets due to the lack of chips. Finally, Renault suspended production for 15 days. According to the news of the Turkish newspaper, companies that use chips in production stated that the chip price, which used to be 6 cents in the past, is now on the black market.

FEARS OF STOCKING STOCK

On the other hand, many companies accelerated their investment in chip production. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), which supplies 63 percent of the global computer chip supply, has decided to establish a chip factory in Japan. However, it takes a long time for large investments. For this reason, it is feared that the stocks of products in the world will be in trouble and price increases.
