Thales and Orascom Construction have secured a contract with the Egyptian National Railways (ENR) to modernize the double-track railway connecting Cairo, Giza, and Beni Suef on the east bank of the Nile, located 115 kilometers from Cairo. Valued at over 300 million euros, the contract spans 60 months and includes two years of guarantee and five years of maintenance. The consortium, comprising Thales and Orascom Construction, will oversee the modernization of signaling, telecommunications systems, and track renewal for this section.
Thales, with a strong track record in Egypt since 2013, has previously collaborated with Egyptian railways on projects, such as the Cairo-Alexandria line and the Cairo-Benha extension. They also oversee the Cairo-Benha line and the Asyut-Nagh Hammadi section in Upper Egypt.
