Kisilevsky emphasized in a statement that traditionally a large amount of scrap metal is exported from Ukraine to Türkiye, but the local metallurgical sector is experiencing difficulties in production due to the shortage of raw materials.
“Currently, the customs duty of EUR 180 applies to all countries outside the EU and will continue to apply to Türkiye even after the agreement is signed. The relevant provisions are annexed to the agreement,” he stated, adding that Türkiye is not protected from the customs duty of EUR 180 per ton.
The effects of the FTA were discussed
At a meeting held in the Ukrainian Parliament, the effects of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) on the metallurgical sector were discussed. Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Economy Taras Kachka stated that the agreement includes provisions to maintain the scrap metal export tax and that this practice will continue.
With this decision, Turkish steel and iron and steel producers will continue to face high-cost imports in terms of raw material supply.
