Turkish flat steel producer Tatçelik is expected to commission its latest production line of 650,000 tons in June to increase its galvanized steel capacity. Tatçelik has a galvanizing line with an annual output of 800,000 tons, a coating line with 200,000 tons and a cold rolling line with 200,000 tons.
Ayhan Uçar, Director of Procurement, Export and Foreign Trade Operations, said that new and postponed projects for Turkish companies are expected to resume in the short term, especially after the local elections in March, as green energy investment is expected to continue to grow strongly. "Scrap will be more valuable" due to the green energy transition, he said, and this means companies that are orienting their production using electric arc furnaces. This means that Turkish mills that produce their steel through EAFs may face some supply issues for a period of time.
