The project is part of the company’s 1.25 billion euro investment plan, supported by 500 million euro in government funding. It is expected to create 250 jobs during the construction phase.
The new line will have an annual capacity of 1.8 million tonnes and will remove the oxide layer from hot rolled steel surfaces, thereby improving product quality. Clecim will provide mechanical and process equipment, while ABB Limited will deliver electrification and automation systems.
Tata Steel CEO Rajesh Nair stated: “This advanced pickling line will form a major part of our green steelmaking facility at Port Talbot, enabling us to supply the high-quality, low-carbon steel products our customers are demanding.”
