In September 2024, Taiwan witnessed a 13% increase in ferrous scrap imports, reaching 227,706 tons, up from 200,790 tons in August 2024. However, this figure represents a significant decline of 20% compared to September 2023, when imports totaled 284,876 tons.
For the first nine months of 2024, Taiwan's total ferrous scrap imports decreased by 11% y-o-y, amounting to 2.1 million tons, down from 2.3 million tons during the same period in 2023.
The United States continued to be Taiwan's primary supplier, providing nearly 45% of the total ferrous scrap imports. Following the US were Japan, the Dominican Republic, and Canada, contributing to Taiwan's overall scrap supply.
