During his campaign, Trump accused Taiwan of stealing from the American semiconductor sector. Following these statements, the Taiwanese government sent state officials to determine whether they would be affected by any upcoming tariffs.
Taiwan's Economy Minister Kuo provided information about who the officials were, stating that a deputy minister and a deputy section chief were sent to Washington, but did not share further details.
Kuo mentioned that while they are prepared for Trump's tariffs, particularly the chip tariffs, he did not disclose specific details. The officials, however, are expected to successfully convey Taiwan's position in the chip market to Trump, emphasizing that Taiwan is one of the best partners for the US. He also noted that the relationship between Taiwan and the US is a win-win for both sides.
