On September 26, 2024, Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs announced new regulations aimed at complying with the European Union's quota restrictions on imported steel products. Exporters intending to send 86 specific Taiwan-made steel items to the EU will now be required to apply for a certificate of origin from the Taiwan Iron and Steel Industries Association.
Additionally, steel products exported from the free-trade zone to the EU will also need an export permit. This measure is intended to prevent the illicit transshipment of steel products from other countries through the Taiwan Free Trade Zone, safeguarding both the trade order and Taiwan’s economic and trade interests. These regulations are set to take effect on October 1, 2024.
