Swiss Steel Group, one of the leading companies in global long steel supply, was awarded with a gold medal by EcoVadis for its achievements in sustainability.

Swiss Steel Group receives gold medal from EcoVadis

The company, which received a silver medal last year, made great progress by winning a gold medal this year with its progress in the areas of environmental sensitivity, ethical business practices and social responsibility.

The award places Swiss Steel Group in the top 5% of all companies evaluated by EcoVadis and in the top 2% of the steel industry. This result stands out as the highest sustainability rating the company has ever received.

Green Steel Strategy and Low Carbon Production

In line with its sustainable production goals, Swiss Steel Group produces with the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) method, which reduces carbon emissions. This method, which saves up to 81% of carbon footprint compared to conventional blast furnaces, is supported by the use of recycled steel scrap and a shift towards renewable energy sources.

By producing green steel for the automotive, aerospace, mechanical engineering and energy sectors, the company contributes to reducing the ecological footprint of its supply chain.

Commenting on the award, Frank Koch, CEO of Swiss Steel Group, stated: “This gold medal is not only an indication of our commitment to sustainability, but also a strong message to the steel industry and our customers. We will continue to lead the transformation of the industry with environmentally friendly production processes and innovative materials.”

The company announced that future sustainability assessments will be conducted at Group level, covering all production facilities. This decision will enable more comprehensive and effective management of sustainability measures.

EcoVadis Assessment and Sustainability Criteria

EcoVadis assesses more than 125,000 companies from 200 different sectors worldwide for their environmental, social and ethical performance. The assessment process is based on international standards such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the UN Global Compact and ISO 26000.

Companies are analyzed based on four main criteria:

Environmental management: Emissions reduction, energy efficiency, protection of natural resources

Labor and human rights: Employee rights, job security, diversity and inclusion.

Ethical business practices: Anti-corruption, fair business practices, data security.

Sustainable procurement: Observing social and environmental responsibilities in the supply chain.

The gold medal won by Swiss Steel Group confirms the company's commitment to achieving its sustainability goals and its leading role in the transformation of the steel industry.

Future Plans: Green Steel Investments Will Continue

Swiss Steel Group plans to further strengthen its sustainability strategy and expand its Green Steel initiatives. In addition to reducing carbon emissions, the company aims to develop circular economy approaches and invest more in environmentally friendly production technologies.

The gold medal awarded by EcoVadis recognizes that sustainable business practices not only provide environmental benefits, but also offer an economic competitive advantage. Swiss Steel Group's customers and business partners will continue to benefit from a transparent and sustainable supply chain that meets high environmental and social standards.
