Turkey produced 8.7 points lower than the world crude steel production in 2022. Production decreased by 12.9% to 35.1 million tons.
According to the statement made by the Turkish Steel Producers Association (TÇÜD), Turkey's crude steel production in December 2022 decreased by 20% compared to the same month of the previous year and became 2.7 million tons.
Final product consumption in December was 2.8 million tons with an increase of 11.3% compared to the same month of 2021, and 32.5 million tons with a decrease of 2.6% in the whole year.
In December, exports of steel products amounted to 864 thousand tons with a decrease of 51.6% in terms of quantity and 745 million dollars with a decrease of 55.1% in terms of value. The ratio of exports to imports, which was 114.9% in 2021, decreased by approximately 25 points to 89.3% in 2022.
In 2022, compared to 2021, exports amounted to 15.1 million tons with a decrease of 23.5% in quantity and 13.9 billion dollars with a decrease of 15.7% in value.
Compared to the same month of 2021, December imports amounted to 1.2 million tons with an increase of 0.2% in quantity, and 1.1 billion dollars with a decrease of 14.1% in terms of value.
In 2022, imports amounted to 14.8 million tons with a decrease of 3.6% in terms of quantity and 15.6 billion dollars with an increase of 8.5% in terms of value compared to the previous year.
The share of imports in the consumption of steel products was 30.2%, while the share of imports in the consumption of flat products was 49%.
