In 2022, Turkey produced 8.7 points lower than world crude steel production. Production decreased by 12.9 percent to 35.1 million tons.
According to the statement made by the Turkish Steel Producers Association (TÇÜD), Turkey's crude steel production in December 2022 was 2.7 million tons, a decrease of 20 percent compared to the same month last year.
Final product consumption was 2.8 million tons in December, an increase of 11.3 percent compared to the same month of 2021, and 32.5 million tons, down by 2.6 percent for the whole year.
In December, exports of steel products decreased by 51.6 percent in terms of quantity to 864 thousand tons and decreased by 55.1 percent in terms of value to 745 million dollars. The ratio of exports to imports, which was 114.9 percent in 2021, decreased by about 25 points to 89.3 percent in 2022.
In 2022, compared to 2021, exports amounted to 15.1 million tons with a decrease of 23.5 percent in terms of quantity and 13.9 billion dollars with a decrease of 15.7 percent in terms of value.
Compared to the same month of 2021, December imports amounted to 1.2 million tons with an increase of 0.2 percent in terms of quantity and 1.1 billion dollars in terms of value, with a decrease of 14.1 percent.
In 2022, imports amounted to 14.8 million tons, a decrease of 3.6 percent in terms of quantity, compared to the previous year, and an increase of 8.5 percent in terms of value to $ 15.6 billion.
The share of imports in the consumption of steel products was 30.2 percent, and the share of imports in the consumption of flat products was 49 percent.
