According to recent statistics, Taiwan's steel imports in January 2024, which include ordinary steel, stainless steel, and special steel, reached approximately 403,000 tons, marking a significant 40% increase compared to December 2023. Notably, imports of hot-rolled stainless steel flat-rolled products surged by 143% month-on-month to about 104,000 tons, while imports of cold-rolled stainless steel flat-rolled products stood at around 7,000 tons.
In the same period, exports of ordinary steel, stainless steel, and special steel totaled about 301,000 tons. Among these exports, hot-rolled stainless steel products saw a 9% month-on-month increase to 22,000 tons, while exports of cold-rolled stainless steel products reached 42,000 tons, representing a notable 32% increase compared to the previous month.
