There are many steel exporters that utilize sea transportation for their shipments. Some of the major steel exporting countries include China, Japan, South Korea, Russia . These countries have a significant presence in the global steel market and export large quantities of steel products to various destinations worldwide.
Although the volume of China's world seaborne steel trade was 62.5 million tons in 2022, this amount increased to 86.1 million tons in 2023, this means an increase of 38%. Japan and North Korea share the second and third places.
Russia ranked fourth in the world according to maritime steel trade volume, transporting 13.5 million tons in 2023. Turkey shipped 9.5 million tons of steel exports in 2023.
In total, European Union countries exported 15.0 million tons of steel in maritime transportation for 2023.
