According to Mining Platform, in order to keep incidents like the one that happened at the mine in the İliç district of Erzincan from happening again, it is critical to thoroughly investigate all procedures connected to the incident and identify the causes.
In the written statement made by the platform formed by 18 unions and associations operating in the mining sector, it was emphasized that mining is a technical business line based on science and the following was noted:
"We have difficulty in evaluating this incident, which occurred at a time when engineering science was so advanced, technology was so developed and used extensively in mining enterprises, as an 'accident'. All processes related to this incident, errors and deficiencies should be carefully examined and the root causes should be found to prevent accidents from occurring again." "We find it very important for mining accidents in our country. As a society, we all suffer together, and as the mining industry, we deeply feel the negative effects of such events."
It was emphasized that the platform aims to bring the mining sector in Türkiye to the public agenda not with accidents, but with new discoveries, businesses with practices that will set an example to the world, and their contributions to the economic development of the country, and the following was stated:
"In fact, mining in our country has an extremely strong legislation and continues its activities subject to the regulations and inspections of the relevant authorities, especially the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security and the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. A significant part of our large mining enterprises "It is subject to international inspections. Despite all this, the occurrence of such accidents shows us that the culture and awareness of occupational health and safety is not sufficiently formed."
In the statement, it was underlined that in the mining sector, where many companies operate, it is not right to blame the entire sector for a disaster that occurred in a single enterprise, or to try to create a negative perception of mining with false and misleading information, and that companies operating properly in the sector are also under suspicion, even though they do not deserve it, and the following was noted:
"We must embrace good practices in the sector and work to make them widespread, and stand together against bad practices. Mining, which we know the value it creates for humanity and whose necessity we wholeheartedly believe in, should come to the fore with its leading role in the development of our country, in the most accurate and sustainable way and with the voluntary cooperation of all stakeholders." Our main goal is to do this with an understanding that prioritizes the environment and the environment. As the Turkish mining industry, we wish to reach our colleagues whose searches are continuing in İliç, and we state to the public that we will continue our work stronger than ever to prevent such disasters from happening again and to build a mining sector that does not come to the fore with accidents. We announce it with respect."
