SSAB and SMS Group have signed a contract for the ongoing hot dip galvanising line no.3 in Finland.
In the "Furnace System", no waste-generating acids and chemicals are used. All rolling mill wastes such as iron oxide, ash, scale and rolling oils on the surface of the raw material are cleaned by passing through a giant furnace. Firstly, the sheet, which passes through the section where 80 natural gas burners are placed, where the flame directly contacts the sheet surface, is then subjected to the HNX gas atmosphere, which is completely free of oxygen. At this stage, the sheet metal, which is heated to 750-800 0C in line with the desired quality, is then plunged into the zinc pot and galvanised.
This contract actually covers the combination of drying-cooling (Air Knife System) and furnace supporters in the line and the balancing of the line. The pre-project investigations and measures are expected to be completed by the end of 2017. The main elements of the project are to increase the efficiency and capacity of the line and to enable efficient production of high quality for strong automotive grades. The new concept for the modernisation is based on extensive studies prepared by the SMS Group for the optimisation of SSAB's galvanising line. These change studies will be implemented in a joint effort with DREVER International, DUMA-BANDZINK, EMG Automation and all companies of the SMS Group. The line will be designed with a thickness of 0.4 to 3.0 millimetres and a width of 650 to 1550 millimetres. In the process, the line will be zinc-coated and the speed will reach 16 kilometres per minute.
The temperature inside the furnace will be 350 C, which will increase the capacity and improve the quality of the furnace's production, resulting in a high-strength and robust product on many levels.
