Sovel, one of Greece's leading steel producers, announced that it has signed an agreement with the Italian firm Danieli to renovate its rebar rolling mill located in Almyros, in the Magnissia region.
According to the company's announcement, the modernization project will involve the renewal of all electrical and automation systems at the facility. The project is planned to be completed by August 2025.
Information obtained from Danieli Automation indicates that the renovation efforts aim to enhance production safety, stability, and reliability. Old equipment will be replaced with next-generation Danieli automation devices and advanced process controls.
The facility has two different production lines: a single line for medium-sized rebars and a double line for small-sized products. The modernization project will be carried out in accordance with European Machinery Directive standards.
Operating under the Sidenor Group, Sovel has been producing steel using electric arc furnaces since 2001. The company implemented the Consteel system in 2007 to enhance energy efficiency. Last year, it announced plans to establish a 6 MW solar power plant at the site.
Sovel, a steel manufacturer with an annual production capacity of 1.2 million tons, produces a variety of steel products used in construction reinforcement, wire rod, and diverse industrial applications.
