Brazilian company Sinobras is set to launch a new long product mill at its Maraba plant in Para, northern Brazil, in October 2023. The mill, supplied by Italy's Danieli, is expected to reach its design capacity in January 2024.
The mill's production capacity is expected to reach 500 thousand tons of products per year, with Sinobras aiming to reach these figures within two years. The new mill will roll around 300 thousand tons of products in 2024. The project, which cost $190 million, will also include new warehouses, an electrical substation, and a waste storage facility.
The Maraba plant currently has an annual capacity of 350,000 tons, producing rebar and wire rod. Sinobras plans to use "green" cast iron semi-finished products as raw materials. A feasibility study for a plant to produce at least 500,000 tons of such semi-finished products per year will be prepared by the end of 2023.
